📺 MUKHI STORY In Hyderabad, Sindh, not far from Karachi, Jethanand Mukhi, son of the richest man in the city, had a bold vision to build the most beautiful building in Hyderabad, Sindh. Little did he know that over the next hundred years, the Mukhi house would become a pawn to powerful geopolitical forces, first making it a prestigious home and destination for influential political figures, then abandoning and almost destroying it during a bloody battle for the heart of the city, and finally resurrecting it to become a museum. In 1920, Jethanand , a descendant of the well-known Mukhi family, inherited a massive fortune of more than 10,000 acres of fertile land, which enabled him to build the Mukhi house. 🏫 *MUKHI HOME* Ground Floor: Western Side: There are 2 rooms , one small hall , and a store room located on this side. Central Section: A large hall is centrally positioned, connecting the rooms on both sides. The hall features walls adorned with various types of paintings , including floral designs. At the front and back of the hall , there are two verandahs . Adjacent to these verandahs, on both sides, are open courtyards . Eastern Side: There are 2 bathrooms and one latrine located on the eastern side, next to the verandah. Two staircases provide access to the first floor: One staircase originates from the western courtyard . Another is a round iron staircase adjacent to the latrine on the eastern side. MUKHI FAMILY TREE Mukhi Sagharmal had two sons: M/s. Dharamdas (1753-1802) and Rajaram (1754-1786). Mukhi Dharamdas Sagharmal sired four sons: M/s. Assanand (Assandas), Majlasrai, Tarachand and Valiram. All the four sons were born at New Khudabad near Halla. Their roots are as follows: Mukhi Assanand Dharamdas was born in 1780 at New Khudabad. After moving to Hyderabad they lived in Mukti Ghitti. Mukhi Assanand and his brothers were Shroffs (Bankers) and dealt in spices and grain (General Produce) as well. Theirs was a joint family business. Mukhi Assanand married Bhai Uttamchand’s (Uttamchandani) sister and sired two sons: M/s. Tilokchand and Basantrai. Mukhi Assanand also had two daughters. The eldest daughter married Munshi Takhatram Manshiani (Advani). Mukhi Assanand expired in the year 1838. Mukhi Tilokchand Assandas was born around the year 1810. THE MUKHI HOUSE MUSEUM HAS A FASCINATING HISTORY THAT GOES THROUGH SEVERAL CHAPTERS SINCE ITS CONSTRUCTION IN 1921 1921 - 1947: A Family Home Built by Jethanand Mukhi, a wealthy Sindhi Hindu businessman, the house served as a luxurious residence for the Mukhi family for about 26 years. The house was a center of social activity and even hosted prominent figures like former Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. 1947 - 1957: The Impact of Partition With the partition of India in 1947, many Sindhi Hindus, including a large portion of the Mukhi family, migrated to India. Though some family members continued to live in or visit the house until 1957, the property's occupancy started to dwindle. 1957 - 2008: Changing Hands and Deterioration After the Mukhi family's significant presence waned, the house went through a period of changing ownership.
